Diagnosis of SCID

The Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IVAxis I Illnesses (SCID-I) is a diagnostic test for DSM-IV Axis I disorders (major mental disorders). The SCID-II is a test that is used to diagnose Axis II illnesses (personality disorders). At least 700 papers have been reported in which the SCID was employed as a diagnostic tool. Depending on the complexity of the subject’s psychiatric history and their ability to clearly explain episodes of current and historical symptoms, an Axis I SCID assessment with a psychiatric patient normally takes between 1 and 2 hours.

Mental health is important

The questionnaire was created for use by a mental health practitioner, such as a psychologist or psychiatrist. This person must have relevant professional training and expertise providing diagnostic examinations with unstructured, open-ended questions. Non-clinician research assistants who have substantial expertise with the study population in question and have proved competency have been trained to utilize the SCID for the purposes of some research projects. More training is required the less clinical experience and specialized knowledge the potential interviewer has. As previously said, people’s ability to cope with and learn from setbacks, mistakes, and disappointments has a significant impact on overall workplace happiness.
